Qualifications for District Governor

Nominations are now being accepted for the District Governor who will serve in the 2029 - 2030 Rotary year.  Please encourage individuals who have served their clubs and communities with distinction to consider expanding their service and sharing their passion and commitment with the District.

The Nominating Committee for District Governor is charged with seeking out and proposing the best available candidate for District Governor-Nominee.  Clubs of the district are invited to submit names of candidates using the online nomination form found on the Rotary District 6970 website Nominating a District Governor.  Note that nominations must be submitted by September 30, 2026, for consideration.  The committee, comprised of members representing a cross-section of the district by club size and geographic location, will interview qualified candidates in a timely manner and notify the District Governor of their selection.  The selection will be announced to all clubs as prescribed by the District Policies & Procedures.

Qualifications for District Governor are defined in the Rotary Manual of Procedure.  In general, the nominee must:

1. Be a member in good standing of a functioning club in the district.
2. Have served as a club president for a full term or as a charter president for at least six months.
3. Demonstrated willingness, commitment, and ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a governor.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of the qualifications, duties, and responsibilities of a governor as prescribed in the bylaws; and
5. Submit to RI a statement that the Rotarian understands those qualifications, duties, and responsibilities, and is qualified for the office of governor, and is willing and able to assume and faithfully perform those duties and responsibilities.
6. Unless excused by the RI Board, they must attend the 2029 International Assembly for its full duration and have been a Rotarian for at least seven years on July 1, 2029.

Governors also should:

1. Possess the esteem of their home clubs.
2. Be of high business and professional standing, with executive ability, demonstrated in the conduct of their businesses or professions.
3. Have their business or profession so well organized that they can dedicate the time necessary to carry out Rotary work.
4. Be a person whose integrity and conduct are above reproach.
5. Have a thorough knowledge of Rotary and be dedicated to the object of Rotary.

How to Propose a Candidate to the Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee will receive all nominations electronically and consider only those submitted through this process.

The deadline is: No later than midnight on September 30, 2026

Interviews are scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026.  Candidates will be given a time and location after nominations are closed.
