District 6970 and Club Officers Liability Insurance

U.S. Club Liability Insurance Program

Effective July 1, 2026

Risk Management

The U.S. Rotary Club & District Liability Insurance Program (U.S. Club Program) provides all U.S. Rotary clubs, districts, and Rotaract clubs with commercial general liability insurance and directors & officers/employment practices liability insurance, subject to policy terms and conditions.

Renewal Notification: We are writing to inform you that current U.S. Rotary Club & District Liability Insurance Program policies will expire 1 July 2026. To ensure continuous coverage, new insurance policies will be purchased. Risk Management will strive to match the same coverage provided by the expiring policies.

Insurance assessment rates are influenced by several factors. These include the overall state of the U.S. insurance market (which is stable but experiencing modest rate increases), costs of the U.S. Club Program insurance policies, expenses incurred to manage the U.S. Club Program, and the rising cost of claims (due to increasing medical and legal expenses). These factors will likely contribute to a modest assessment rate increase.

For budgeting purposes, the new insurance assessment rates for Rotary clubs will be sent to you in June 2026 and will be billed on the July club invoice.

In the coming months, Risk Management will email you about:

  • Firework Displays

  • 2026-27 insurance assessment rates (June)

  • 2026-27 insurance policies (July)

Certificates of insurance for the 1 July 2026-27 policy year will be available in June 2026 and posted on the Insurance Portal (along with other insurance resources).

Risk Management - Pryotechnics

The U.S. Rotary Club & District Liability Insurance Program (U.S. Club Program) provides all U.S. Rotary clubs, districts, and Rotaract clubs with commercial general liability and directors & officers/employment practices liability insurance, subject to policy terms and conditions.

Dear Club Officers and Officers-elect, If your club is hiring a pyrotechnics vendor for a fireworks display, please review the following:

Contract Review: Have an attorney review the vendor's contract before signing. Do not agree to indemnify the vendor for risks outside your club's control.

Insurance Requirements: Your club: Must purchase a primary commercial general liability policy with at least $2M in coverage; the policy cannot exclude fireworks.

Pyrotechnic Vendor: Must carry at least $5M in liability insurance, or the amount required by the municipality/venue - whichever is greater. The vendor's policy must name your club as an additional insured on a primary and noncontributory basis and provide a certificate of insurance.

The U.S. Club Program's commercial general liability insurance will be excess of your club's commercial general liability insurance in case of a catastrophic loss. See Fireworks - Loss Prevention Strategies on Hylant's Insurance Portal for additional information. (See below).

Required Documentation: Send the following to insurance@rotary.org at least one week before the event.
Your club's certificate of insurance
The vendor's certificate of insurance
Exceptions: Your club is not required to purchase insurance if: It only contributes funds and does not sign a contract with the pyrotechnics vendor; or It sells pre-wrapped fireworks but does not detonate them. If the municipality signs the vendor's contract, ask the municipality to include your club as an additional insured and provide a certificate of insurance.

Please share this message with anyone in your club involved in event planning or insurance.
